Revised December 28, 2013

Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world 1 John 4:1.

Who's your teacher? Who's leading you? Are you being deceived? How do you test the spirit of those you put your trust in...? We all must ask these questions in our daily walk for truth.

I said in an earlier article, behind every man there is a spirit and the battle is for our mind, God's Creation Is Not The Enemy.  We all, at one time or another allowed the spirit of  Satan to control our thinking, which is his main objective.  However, the fight is not against man it is against God.  We are merely pawns used in his schemes as a sacrifice.  How?  Satan has tricked us into thinking, we can control our flesh without God; Romans 8:7 says: "The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so.

Deception is Satan's ultimate goal, He tricks us into thinking that our conflict is against our neighbor.  But, God said; "our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms" Ephesians 6:12.  Here's the problem; Satan keeps our eyes fixed on what is visible, this method is designed to keep us from uncovering his spirit, as we destroy one another emotionally and physically to appease our fleshly desires.  This deception keeps us from crossing over spiritually and prevents us from understanding the unseen world of God.  When we are deceived our eyes are fixed on what is seen (visible desires) instead of what is unseen (spirit).

The spirit of the adversary is looking for those with influence whom he can control.  This way he covers a mass of people instead of one or two individuals.  One of the most likely place for his attack is our local institutional church and its leaders.  On Sunday we will find people from all walks of life, political, financial and other social status gathered to receive, what they believe is the true Word of God.  But in fact, some leaders who stand before us on Sunday morning to minister the gospel are false prophets (not sent by God).  One of the most telling patterns of a leader who's mind is controlled by the adversary is one who tries to control his members by lording over them.  If you find yourself in an organization where this dynamic is going on, be watchful; the leadership knowingly or unknowingly is practicing the most basic form of spiritual witchcraft.   Witchcraft is all about mind control; the leader with a controlling spirit will use manipulation and emotional blackmail to engineer and control situations for his own personal advantage and monetary gain.

The controlling leader is not to be confused with a leader who is diligent in fulfilling his clerical responsibilities.   The leader with a controlling spirit is an enemy of God and the biggest hindrance to the work of Christ in our lives.  This spirit overwhelms us and leaves no room for faith to operate.  Feelings of bondage are present and individuality is not welcomed.  But, more than this, the controlling spirit ruins relationships, causes loneliness, isolation that ultimately leaves us powerless, which grieves the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit does not operate in the life of a leader with a controlling spirit.  Those leaders will avoid teaching extensively about the Spirit of God and the importance of receiving Him.  Why? because the controlling leader knows the only way we will be able to expose  him/her is by receiving God's Spirit who "will guide you into all the truth" John 16:13 NASB.  Without Him, we are spiritually blind.

False prophets do not put their faith in Christ or trust anyone, ultimately leading them into self-worship.  Self sits on the seat of counterfeit power and rules; the only perspective they can see and understand is their own.  Any idea or thought contrary to their way is unacceptable.  If you do not conform to their ways or ideas, you will become demonized within the institutional body and cut off; God said, do not be afraid; “Blessed are you when men hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man Luke 6:22.”  “I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them.  For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive" Romans 16:17-18.

If anyone dares to challenge this leader, they will use the following scripture to justify their actions before it is made known; "Touch not my anointed, and do my prophets no harm" 1 Chronicles 16:22; as if they are more anointed than those who have received the power of the Holy Spirit.  They are attempting to circumvent the truth by claiming to be more anointed, or twice as significant and important in the eyes of God than we are.  They will also claim that their ministry is anointed as well.  These leaders pervert the scriptures in order to maintain their self-proclaimed rank by using quotes from sources other than the Bible and erroneously mixing it with scripture to prove their point, a form of humanism and manipulation.  However, we support them in their claims with our hardy Amen's, which is saying, “I agree” as they inaccurately use the Bible as the authority of their false teachings.

Once they know you are in agreement with their teachings, they form emotional ties with those whom have given in to their control rather than the direction of God.  Offering dignified (meaningless) titles to lure you in as they systematically take the place of God the Father.  They use the term father loosely to describe themselves, as if they are our shielding parents and we are their children no matter the age gap.  This bonding is designed to turn our worship toward their leadership and away from God which prevents us from uncovering their deception.  God said we are all brothers and sisters "and do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven" Matthew 23:8-10.

No one has the right to force his or her will on you; God will not force His Will on us.  As believers  we look to our pastor's for support and guidance on how to live according to the Word of God; when we do this we give them power over us; and that power can be used for good or evil.  Stop being lazy believers, study Gods word for yourself.  “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that need not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV.  False teachers deceive us because we willfully ignore what the scriptures are saying, and consequently we deceive ourselves, resulting in deception by others.  God says; "As for you [the believer], the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you.  But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit--just as it has taught you, remain in him" 1 John 2:2.

Once we understand the operations of a leader with a controlling spirit, we must completely break free spiritually and physically from that organization.  You must renounce the organization and its practices spiritually to God  “and when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins Mark 11:25-26.”  To do this requires forgiveness for the leader and their followers, asking God to forgive and bless them.  Remember forgiveness does not make the wrong doers right, it makes you free, which breaks emotional soul ties on you and your family that came through unholy association with the leader and their organization.

About I. Christian

I began blogging about three years ago and with time it became a passion. Before I started this journey, I worked as a counselor and eventually moved up to managing director of one of the largest behavioral healthcare programs in New York City. What was most rewarding for me was counseling; helping people get to the core of their problems. Studying God’s word and incorporating His Will into my group sessions contributed to their success.
